Did you know that the development of heart problems can start early in life? Eating too much saturated fat raises cholesterol levels, leading to the build up of fat in the artery walls.
So what can we do to help our children and give them a healthy start?
Research shows that simply swapping foods which are high in bad saturated fats (eg butter, fatty meats, cakes and pastries) with foods rich in good unsaturated fats can help keep the whole family's hearts healthy.
H·E·A·R·T UK recommends a balanced diet replacing saturated fats with unsaturated fats, basing meals on wholegrain starchy foods with plenty of fruit and veg, whilst cutting down on salty foods. And don't forget that keeping your children active is important too.
Remember, it's never too early to look after your family's heart health.
